This powerful scripture from Philippians 4:13 has been on my mind over the past several days. If you skim further down to verse 19, Paul reminds us “God himself will provide you with everything you need.”

I thought about how God gave Chris and me the strength to fight a rare cancer – the type with a life expectancy of 1-2 years – for 3 years, 4 months, and 6 weeks. I am so proud to be Chris’ witness in how he endured what was the most challenging race of his life without ever giving up, determined to cross his finish line.

I’ve also thought about how this scripture relates to an athlete competing in the most rigorous race of his/her life, using all of their strength to persevere through it and cross the finish line victoriously.

If you’ve ever participated in or been to a marathon, a triathlon, a bicycle criterion race, or a swim meet, you know and admire the physical, mental, and emotional strength to endure it. I was a spectator to all those races and each time, I was in awe of the competitors’ perseverance. I’d feel this overwhelming power through my body, feeling such a deep desire of wishing I had the talent to compete and making me want to cheer harder for them.

Feeling so inspired by this scripture and wanting to share it with you, I went on You Tube to see if there is a song that goes with those powerful words. The first video I saw was so awesome and incredible, you MUST see it! It is a story of a father and his paralytic son who competes in marathons, duathlons, triathlons, and ironmans together. It’s one of those amazing love stories that will capture many hearts forever.

Please, spare about 15 minutes to see both the story and the beautiful tribute.

Whether you’re in a race of your life or in an athletic race, remember that you can persevere through Christ who will give you strength.

Ride On!
