About a month ago, a friend of mine asked me a question about my journey over the last three years writing this book, Ride On!

“Stephanie,” she started, repositioning herself directly in front of me, looking straight into my eyes, “I know you’ve worked so hard on this book – I can’t imagine doing it myself – but…” she paused, glanced at the gray and black speckled parking lot, trying to figure out how to ask me the question that was on her mind. She tilted her head back and looked at me intensely, “Did it ever cross your mind to stop writing this book? I mean, did you ever once want to quit?”

“No,” I answered confidently, focusing on my friend. “Not once. Not ever. Yeah, it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but I was supposed to share Chris and my story with you.” She smiled and hugged me.

I didn’t think much about that conversation until today when I heard the song “Stay Strong” by the Newsboys. I stopped whatever it was I was doing and really listened to the words. Goosebumps surfaced all over my body and I shivered. Tears welled up in my eyes as I found the lyrics in writing and read them carefully. I must have heard this song 50 times, but it really got to me.

This song is about staying strong in your race and keeping your eyes focused on what is ahead. Each day is a new day and God will light your way. All you need to do is to stay strong – don’t give up – and hold onto Him who would never let you go.

Scriptures in the Bible backs this up:
“I’m running hard for the finish line. I’m giving it all I’ve got.” –1st Corinthians 9:26
“Keep your sight on what is ahead and your eyes directed straight in front of you.”  –Proverbs 4:25
“Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” — Psalm 119:105
“The Lord is my strength.” — Psalm 28:7
“He makes firm the steps of those who delight in Him. They may stumble, but they will not fall, for the Lord holds them by their hand.”  –Psalm 37:26

Wherever you are in your race right now:
“You’ve gotta stay strong
You and I run
For the prize that lies ahead
We’ve come too far to lose our way

Get up, there’s further to go
Get up, there’s more to be done
Get up, this witness is sure
Get up, this race can be WON!”
